2023 SALCOMBE GIN MERLIN WEEK ENTRY LIST AS AT 23:59 31 July 2022

COMMENTARY.

We have 142 entries. Thank you to each and everyone of you who both support our event year in year out, but also those who have entered for the first time or after a break. We really do appreciate your support. 

Interestingly, the average age of the Merlin helm is now fifty four; down from fifty nine last year. A welcome trend.

Draw

The waiting list this year will stand at 22. This is down from 29 last year. 

We very much regret there has to be a draw at all. We would obviously like to welcome everyone's entry without caveat. We will hold the draw on Tuesday 30th August at 10:00 in the SYC Chartroom. We aim to stream it live on the SYC Facebook account. Or if you can, please come and witness the process first hand. 

Impossible though it is to imagine gaining a place in the week when twenty second on the waiting list, the list does evaporate over time. For example, Stuart Jenkins, has historically invariably featured on the waiting list each year since 2017, but it has been our great pleasure to call him with the words: 

"This is the call, Stuart."

We invariably receive withdrawals a week or two out from the event, so if you are able to commit to coming, as does Stuart, you are almost certainly assured of a place. This year as last we sailed with four or five places under the limit. No guarantees, but we suspect the same may be true of the 2023 edition. 

A small plea: should your circumstances change after entry, could you tell us as soon as you can? It helps us re-allocate your entry and may bear on the amount of your entry fee refund too. Please see the NOR for details of the refund policy. 

Entry fee. 

The entry fee is £240 as per the 2022 edition. We have held the entry fee static despite inflationary pressure of harbour dues.

Once again, thank you from all of us at Salcombe Yacht Club. We are acutely conscious that other holiday or dinghy week options are available. We really do appreciate your choosing us. 

IMPORTANT REMINDER MROA Membership

PLEASE ENSURE YOU ARE A MEMBER OF THE MROA AT THE TIME OF THE DRAW AND THE WEEK. 

Though Merlin Week is hosted by SYC alone, we are strong advocates of class association membership. All of us should recognise the hard work of the MROA committee.  As such, Merlin Week entry is subject to your being an MROA member at time of the draw and the week. Please be sure this is so, to avoid disappointment.

If you have missed the cut for the draw and you want to come, send us an entry form anyway. You may still get an entry.
