    SYC Spring Series, Race 4

Handicap Race -  With light E-NE winds and a spring low tide to contend with it wasnt looking overly inviting for the sailors of SYC on Saturday.  The course 7-X-3-X with X being laid between the Watch House and Mark 2. That being said, it was fantastic to see a bumper turn out of 13 boats in the handicap fleet with a couple of new additions as well as

HANDICAP RACE:- The SYC Sailors were greeted with glorious conditions this Saturday to kick off the first race of the winter series. Salcombe Yacht Club 2021 Autumn Series, Race 8.

Saturday 23rd October 2021 greeted the sailors with a 15 knot south-westerly breeze with gusts of 20 knots blasting down the harbour.  Unfortunately, only Edward Alexander braved the conditions in the Junior Handicap. He sailed extremely well and continues to develop his sailing skills which shows in the overall results, winning every race and therefore the series, - Well done Edward, keep up the good work! Salcombe Sailing Club Series 19th June 2021

This day we were blessed with a SE 10 knot breeze on neap high water.  SE is a sub-optimal wind direction in Salcombe.  However the windward mark at South Pool produced a decent beat. Thereafter the fleets were tasked with a run and reach to Gerston; thence, a close reach to either Saltstone or in the case of Fast Handicap, back through the Bag to Snapes. This was followed by a

    Summer Race Series 8 - 27 July

Once again the sun shone and with the high tide coinciding with the race starts, the full extent of the Kinsbridge Estuary was available to OODs Graham and Tessa Pike for racing and the course was nicely set with a hard beat to Blackstone into a very fresh but gusty sea breeze, followed by a run to Yalton and trips to Frogmore and Gerston before heading back to the finishing line where the sea breeze had met the pressure wind causing some frustration and confusion.

Salcombe Yacht Club Spring Series Race 1

After a delayed start due to cancellation of racing due to Storm Gareth the previous weekend, the Salcombe Yacht Club Spring Series finally got underway on Saturday 23 rd March.  Race Officer Simon Ballantine set a beat and running course between Crossways and Blackstone on what was one of the lowest tides for several years.  Despite pessimistic forecasts, there was sufficient North in the wind direction to allow powered up sitting out on

Salcombe Yacht Club, Festive Series. Day 1

The recent run of poor weather relented enough for a very competitive Festive Series race to be played out on a feisty and overcast 22 nd December Saturday morning. Twenty five boats answered the single start handicap race and most of the fleet expertly lined up at the start gun to embark on a gusty first beat to the Blackstone mark at the mouth of the estuary. There were capsize casualties right from the beginning of the
