SYC Sailing Club Series, Race 5
There were only 5 participants for Race 5 in the Fast Handicap Sailing Club series on Saturday. Malcom Mackley set a course consisting of 1-3-1-2-1-X but opted to shorten it as the conditions worsened, cutting out the loop around X. Throughout the morning the sun was shining and the clouds were starting to break up meaning an afternoon sea breeze was a possibility. In reality though it never

Mid Week Series One - Race 3
There was a strong turn out of 17 boats for the 3rd race in the first of the midweek series. As usual in Salcombe when the wind direction is from the NW it causes the sailors all sorts of problems. The massive shifts required quick thinking and a certain amount of patience as you waited for a gust to appear from what could have been anywhere. Chris Cleaves, in

Wednesday Evening Mid Week Series 1 - Race 2
After his Victory last Wednesday, David Greening could be found on the Watch House Balcony this Wednesday doing a very realistic Owl impression, albeit out of necessity rather than choice. Even with the issues he was facing in the Watch House David managed to get the fleet away on time. The course was 2-3-2-3 but with the breeze dropping David made the decision to drop an X mark just off the Ferry

Early May Bank Holiday Weekend Open Meetings and Club Racing.
Unfortunately, SYC have no control over the weather. . . . what more can we say? No wind, postponed & cancelled races, a Spring low with very strong tides and lots of backwards drifting pretty much sums up the conditions for the Salcombe Yawl, RS400 and National 12 Early May Open Meetings. After an initial 2-hour postponement, the decision to cancel Sunday's races was made leaving only the one race held

Mid-Week Sailing Series, Race 1
It was a glorious sunny evening for the Start of the Midweek Sailing series with a great turn out with 16 boats participating. Scud, acting Race Officer, set a course of 3-1-3-2 which turned out to be the perfect length for these shorter midweek races. It was close racing from the off in this mixed handicap fleet, but it was David Greening in his Solo who came out on

SYC Sailing Club Series, Race 1
Medium Handicap 5 Laser radials and Edward Alexander in his new 4.7 hit the start for the first race in the Medium Handicap on Saturday. The early leader of the radial class was Henry Evans who led the fleet on the first down-wind leg past Smalls Beach after a quick recovery from his earlier 'show-boating' involving the phrase "watch this" followed by a poorly executed roll gybe ending in a spectacular capsize!
