  • Salcombe Yacht Club Sailing Club Series Race 2 - April 2018

Weather conditions were far from ideal for the second race of Salcombe Yacht Club’s Sailing Club Series. A light north easterly wind was blowing down the estuary but this was forecast to swing around to the south at some stage during the race. Low water had been late morning so by the time competitors were starting either side of 2pm, a strong flood tide was running. The prospect of battling the tide in light and

Salcombe Yacht Club Sailing Club Series Race 1 - April 2018

Blue skies and a force 3 to 4 easterly breeze made for glorious sailing conditions for the 32 boats competing in the first race of Salcombe Yacht Club’s Sailing Club Series. Race Officer Dan Bridger set a beat to the Crossways mark then a reach to Gerston and back followed by a couple of laps of the main Estuary. The reach to Gerston meant the fleets had to negotiate a tricky no wind zone in

Salcombe Yacht Club Spring Series Race 5 2018

The forecast light south easterly wind did not auger well for the 5 th race of the Salcombe Yacht Club Spring Series, however by the start of the racing it had backed around to a fresh East North Easterly, with good beating in the harbour and planing reaches across Widegates, which the courses set by Race Officer Malcolm Mackley made the most of. The Solos were first away, beating toward Crossways, with Phil

Salcombe Yacht Club Spring Series Race 3 2018

A Force 5 North Westerly over a Spring Flood tide was bound to make for interesting racing for the third race of the Salcombe Yacht Club Spring Series, offering flat out racing in the more open upper reaches of the harbour, and nail biting no wind zones in the main anchorage, where the Devon hills provide protection. Race Officer Peter Cook set a course that maximised on the flat out

    From the Galley

Has the snow gone? (Peeps through the duvet) good! It’s About time. It’s been an eventful start to say the least.  First week In and the French evening nearly didn’t happen! The snow caused chaos with our suppliers (and my car!)  The butchers fridge broke down so it was a last minute dash around to find ingredients that we could use. If they did they couldn’t deliver because of the snow!

Salcombe Yacht Club Spring Series Race 2 2018

Race Officer Chris Cleaves set a course that circuited the harbour four times, leaving himself several opportunities to shorten the course, an option that he
