Handicap

Our Handicap Fleets are divided into three main groups:- Junior Handicap, Medium Handicap, Fast Handicap

Each group enjoys their own start during the summer season.

At Salcombe the fleet sizes have ebbed and flowed over the years and when there is a sustained increase in numbers of any one class then a separate start is created. We always seek to encourage class racing whenever possible.

Junior Handicap racing is an exciting place to be currently. Whilst a more detailed report on the Juniors is covered elsewhere on the website, we enthusiastically recognise the importance of our flourishing cohort of Junior sailors that includes both Championship level sailors as well as up and coming novices.

Medium Handicap. The fleet mainly consists of Laser Radials and 4.7s being competitively raced by people of all ages, including some of our emerging teenage talent as well as a healthy contingent of ladies. There are many of the Yacht Club owned boats racing in this group and boats are regularly available for members to use - both single-handed as well as two man.

Fast Handicap. The fleet is made up of Larks, Merlin Rockets, RS400s, Phantoms, Aero 7s and 9s with an occasional appearance from our 505. The standard of racing is competitive between the closely handicapped fast boats. We welcome all newcomers in order to increase our existing classes as well as broadening our Handicap racing.

The Fleet Captain is John Burn, please email for any enquiries - f1plumbing.heating@gmail.com
