SYC Cadet Racing

On Saturday 3 October, the more advanced sailors on the SYC cadet programme joined the club racing. 

The purpose was to stretch the cadets slightly with a gentle introduction to racing. Race Officer Steve Walters gave a valuable pre race briefing around the flags and starting sequence, before setting the cadets off on two simple windward / leeward courses. In all, 11 cadets took part, representing the Tuesday and Saturday cadet groups. 

All eight of the club’s toppers were on the water, plus a Laser and a Feva. Racing among the Topper fleet was closely contested, but Bodhi Glover was the pick of the pack across the two races. Tobias Tsang was first over the line in each race in the Laser, followed by Maggie Parker and Tilly Tsang in the Feva. 

The cadets all did magnificently well and we hope to run similar races in the future to offer an easy stepping stone into club racing. Big thanks to Steve for helping us along and to the other racers who encouraged the cadets on the day.
