Ladies Who Launch & Buoys Aloud

Now in its fifteenth year, Ladies Who Launch & Buoys Aloud continues to welcome both absolute beginners and experienced sailors. Our weekly sessions bring people together to build confidence, enjoy being on the water, and have fun afloat, while warmly welcoming new members.

There's no requirement to attend every week—sailors are welcome to join whenever theyre able to launch. The SYC vision for this group is to introduce more people to sailing and inspire participants to progress to regular sailing, embracing a sporty, active, and healthy lifestyle.

The social side of the group is just as important. After sailing, members often gather on the Yacht Club Terrace, creating a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere that encourages friendships, shared stories, and plans for the next time on the water.

Ladies Who Launch & Buoys Aloud meets on Thursday mornings at 10.00 am, with sessions lasting approximately 2.5 hours.

We are also keen to support sailors who are new to racing. To help with this, we aim to run Pathway Racing Sessions on Wednesday afternoons, ahead of the Clubs Midweek Race.

If you would like to join Ladies Who Launch & Buoys Aloud or take part in the Pathway Racing Sessions, please contact:

Jayne Morris - Jayne@salcombeyc.org.uk

You are welcome to attend up to three sessions as a guest before becoming a full Club member. The cost for non-members is £20 per session, payable before the session. As guest places are limited, advance booking is recommended.

Please dress expecting to get wet and bring a buoyancy aid. However, if you'd really rather stay dry, we'll do our best to accommodate you in the safety boat! No prior sailing experience is required—just come along, have fun, and enjoy the freedom of being on the water.

We would like to extend our thanks to Sport England and the dedicated Club volunteers who make these weekly sessions possible. In particular, Roger Odell and Ursula Ferguson are regular helpers whose guidance—especially on reading the ever-changing winds in the estuary—and patrol boat cover is greatly valued by the group.

Whether participants go on to enjoy the mental and physical challenge of racing or simply cherish time spent sailing, these sessions often spark a lifelong passion. We're proud of the role the Yacht Club plays in encouraging participation, confidence, and a love of sport on the water.
