SYC Sailing FAQs

Where do I launch?

Batson Public Slipway, Salcombe, TQ8 8DU Boat Park Open 9.00am-6.00pm.

East Portlemouth Council and the National Trust request that boats are not delivered to Mill Bay by road between 9.00am 5.00pm

Where do I park my trailer/car?

Pre-book a boat trailer space when entering (for whole week regattas) or with the SYC Office(call 01548 842593). Directions to Horsecombe Farm trailer parking are on the Regatta pages of the website.

Car Parking:

 1. Salcombe Park & Ride. Season tickets can be bought from the Salcombe Post Office and the Tourist Information Centre.

2. Batson Creek Car Park - Pay and Display

Do I need to pay Harbour Dues?

If you are competing in a week long regatta you will be expected to purchase Harbour Dues by going to either the Harbour Authority office on Whitestrand or the Batson Boat Park Attendant's office. 

Where do I berth my dinghy?

Batson If you want to leave your boat at Batson boat park, please book your space directly with the Harbour office.

Mill Bay The Mill Bay Beach owners kindly give permission for dinghies to berth on Mill Bay. Weekly stickers may be purchased from either Salcombe Yacht Club or The Venus Café for a minimum donation to charity of £10 per boat per week.  Each boat can only stay for four weeks in any one year. We hope you will appreciate this is how the beach is kept beautiful and many people are able to enjoy  sailing from here. Please park the boats neatly, to the seaward side of the wooden posts and take all litter home. 

You are only allowed access for your boat and trolley to Mill Bay from the narrow lane at the back of the beach after 18.00hrs and before 08.00 hrs.
Do not be tempted to take a short cut with a trailer on the back!

How do I get to Mill Bay for Racing each day?

Bring your own inflatable with outboard or use the East Portlemouth Ferry. Depending on tide you can walk to Mill Bay along the beach or along the road.

Are all my family welcome at the Yacht Club?

Yes, indeed they are! SYC is family orientated.

Who should I contact with any queries during Regatta Week?

The SYC Office will be open for Regatta queries from 0900-1000 hrs & 1200-1300 hrs, afternoons will vary call 01548 842593 at these times only or contact the Duty Officer who will be listed on the noticeboard on the day.

Please do not ask the Bar Staff about Sailing queries.

Protest will ONLY be dealt with in the Watch House by the Race Officer.

What is the Fairway?

This is a lane for non-racing craft. It is set out in the Sailing Instructions and when you come to the briefing it will be explained to you.
