Meg Niblett inspirational sailing story!

Congratulations to Meg Niblett (former SYC Cadet) who is currently in training for a Double handed Sydney Hobart Race. Please do follow the link to see her remarkable Sailing Career which all started here at SYC. Meg has said she will come and give a Talk at the Club next summer.
One windy day we were moving the Club Fevas from Smalls to the Blazebys in Kingsbridge for winter storage. Charlie and Meg were sailing so fast, white spray flying all around, and they had the biggest of grins. They went on to compete in our Club Feva at national level.
Charlie is now a Marine Officer and a passionate windsurfer, foiler and yachtsman, currently climbing mountains somewhere in the world! Learning to sail in Salcombes challenging winds and tides equip people to sail anywhere, with a certain knowledge of tidal flows and ready for a wind shift in any direction!
SYC has an incredibly special legacy for inspiring young sailors over many, many years. From the beginnings with Shirley Tyler and Cath Stone setting up the building of Mirror Dinghies for SYC Cadets in the Smalls Beach boathouse to where we are now. The Club thrives today thanks to Andrew McIlwraith providing the opportunity of Cliff House being our permanent base and all subsubquent SYC Flag Officers, Committees and other volunteers running the Club. Cadet leaders and parent volunteers over the years have all been part of this special sailing legacy. Many young sailors lives have been enriched by learning to sail in Salcombe. It is a combination of the water, the stunning topography but importantly the characters who sail here and pass on their skills.
When building those first Club Mirrors who could have imagined the development of craft to the extraordinary Americas Cup Boats racing today?!
