Salcombe Yacht Club was proudly represented by Charlotte Simmonds at the 2026 ILCA 6 Youth World Championships, held in Aarhus, Denmark, from 1119 August.
The championship brought together 429 sailors from 45 countries, with 122 competitors taking part in the Youth Womens ILCA 6 fleet, providing Charlotte with the opportunity to compete against some of the very best young sailors from around the world.

The event proved to be a challenging championship, with highly variable conditions throughout the week. The opening day of qualifying was particularly difficult, with light and inconsistent winds causing significant delays and allowing only one race to be completed for the girls. Racing improved over the following days, with stronger winds eventually allowing the fleet to make up some lost racing.

After the qualifying series, the sailors were divided into Gold, Silver, Bronze and Emerald fleets for the Final Series. Charlotte continued to compete strongly in what was an extremely competitive international fleet, gaining valuable experience of racing at the highest level of youth ILCA sailing.
The championship was ultimately won by Hermionie Ghicas of Greece, with Sienna Wright of Ireland finishing second and Rebecca Mantel of Israel third in the Youth Womens fleet.
For Charlotte, competing at an ILCA 6 Youth World Championship represents a significant achievement and an important step in her development as a sailor. Having already established herself within the ILCA 6 fleet in the UK, including competing at the 2026 ILCA UK National Championships, this international experience will provide an excellent platform for her continued progression.
Salcombe Yacht Club would like to congratulate Charlotte on her achievement in representing both the Club and Great Britain on the international stage, and wish her every success for the remainder of the season.
