Dittisham & Torquay Rally

2nd - 4 July 2021

Salcombe Yacht Club Rally to Dittisham and Torquay 2nd; 3rd; 4th July

  Friday 2nd July - Dittisham

  • Participating yachts to gather during the afternoon at the Rallys pre booked Dittisham moorings.
  • H.W on the 2nd July is at 12.38pm giving a favourable East going tide around Start Point from late morning until mid afternoon.
  • A Rally drinks party will be held on the Ferry Boat Inn (FBI) pontoon around 6.00pm - £5.00 per crew, Skippers free.
  • Due to high demand, there are no water taxis available in Dittisham during the evening of the 2nd July so please bring your own inflatable dinghy and outboard. You may need them on Saturday! (see below)
  • Harbour moorings at Dittisham have been booked for 12+ boats on Friday. To avoid the possibility of no shows, during this busy Summer, the Dartmouth Harbour office now requires group mooring fees to be paid in advance. The Harbour Master has agreed to email each Skipper(we have your email addresses) with their mooring fee invoice, at £1.80p per metre, to be settled before arrival at Dittisham. Mooring invoices are payable online or with a credit card by phone.
  • The Ferry Boat Inn (FBI) has been exclusively booked for our Rally Supper. Due to continuing Covid restrictions bookings will be limited to the FBIs inside limit of 26 individuals. As you are probably aware the Ferry Boat Inn is a small establishment and care needs to be taken to wear masks whilst moving around and to keep 2m apart where you are able to.  Please note A  takeaway Pizza menu will be available  for those not attending the Rally Supper.

Important note although bookings at the FBI must be restricted to 26, your booking for a mooring  is not. If you dont make the FBI supper you can always moor in Dittisham and have one of their takeaway Pizzas!!

Saturday 3rd July - Torquay:

Regrettably it has not been possible to make a guaranteed SYC Rally group booking at Torquay Harbour for Saturday night, 3rd July. This is due to the excessive berthing demand this Summer and reduced capacity due to covid regulations. Hence both the Torquay Harbour office and the MDL Harbour marina report they are unable to take either Rally group or advanced individual bookings. MDL may be able to offer individual bookings made up to seven days in advance with a 10% discount for three or more yachts booked at the same time. Cost per metre is £4.25 for yachts up to 10m and £5.45/m for larger yachts. But the advanced booking relies on berth holders being away and that may not be known until a day or two beforehand. The advice from Torquay Harbour is to ring on the day to check individual berthing availability but they will not reserve spaces.

As our Rally group berthing at Torquay is not now possible a group booking for supper at the Royal Torbay Yacht Club unfortunately becomes impractical. But it may be possible to book a table in the restaurant once the berthing has been secured. It is with regret on the part of the SYC Rally Masters that arrangements to visit Torquay on Saturday 3rd July must now be arranged individually. But it may be possible to do so on the day.

Saturday 3rd July Dittisham as an alternative to Torquay

  • The Dartmouth Harbour Master confirms that staying on your booked Dittisham mooring for a second night on the 3rd July will not be a problem. You dont have to rebook and the Harbour staff will collect your additional mooring fee on Saturday.
  • Suggestions for activities around Dittisham on Saturday 3rd July include:-
    • A trip up the river Dart by inflatables to Stoke Gabriel for lunch and drinks at one of their great pubs and restaurants. H.W. on the Saturday is around 2.00pm making it ideal for a lunchtime, there and back, excursion.
      •  Pubs and Restaurants in Stoke Gabriel:
      • Castle Inn 01803 782 255
      • River Shack café 01803 782 520
      • Church House Inn 01803 782 697
      • Emmas restaurant 01803 782 697
    • Exploring the River Dart creeks by water. For a more adventurous a lunchtime stop beyond Stoke Gabriel might be possible to:
    • Local river side walks
    • Visit to Greenway Agatha Christies home 01803 842382 https://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/greenway
    • Take a ferry up to Dartmouth
  • Ideas and arrangements for Saturday activities to be discussed at the FBI supper on Friday. But we suggest that skippers make their own advanced bookings at lunchtime or evening venues once they have made plans.
