SYC Ramble followed by Sunday lunch at the club
Bolt Head and environs. This is an easy walk of 2 ½ to 3 miles, mostly along cliff top paths with great views out to sea and across the Range. Great for dog walkers.
Meet 1000 am at East Soar NT carpark (TQ7 3DR) for 1015 start. We take the track past Middle Soar farm to The Warren where we join the SW coast path heading towards Bolt Head. A mile along the path we can stop for a drop of coffee and a snack (bring your own!) at a high point overlooking Bolt Head with views across the Range towards Prawle Point. Then we cut inland, either first taking the path down to Starehole Bottom and walking up the valley, or more directly across to a bit of a downhill scramble towards the bridge over the stream at the top of that valley. Then up stony steps towards Sharp Tor (with a possible detour for the view from there), then back past East Soar Farm and its Walkers Hut (closed off season), then along the side of the airfield to the car park. The walk itself takes about 1 ½ hours at a steady pace, but well allow 2 hours or so for stops, taking in the views etc, which leaves plenty of time to get back to the Yacht Club for the Sunday lunch!
