SYC Ramble followed by Roast at the club

20th March 2022, 10:00 - 14:00

A walk taking in parts of The South West Coast Path from Thurlestone to Bantham circa 4.5miles

Meet 10.00 for 10.15 walk start. Park towards the bottom of Court Park, Thurlestone, first left entering Thurlestone, signposted Kerse. Park on left hand side facing downhill. Please dont park withing 20m of the sharp right hand bend at the bottom of the road. Assemble on the rough ground to left of the sharp right hand bend at the bottom of the hill . We will walk via the Mead Estate , a footpath & track to join the road down towards the Golf Club, beware of cars on this section of road. Having passed the Golf Club we will join the South West Coast Path going north walking past three beaches. With the golf course on our right we will gradually climb about 200ft with spectacular coastal views. Reaching the top of the ridge overlooking the Avon Estuary we will have a steeper descent to the car park & picnic area where there is a Gastrobus selling good barista coffee. There can be queues so bringing own drinks could be beneficial. Bantham beach dog restrictions do not start until May 1st. After a 20 min stop we will walk east up the car park & road to The Sloop Inn, turning right onto footpaths taking us down into the base of the valley, where when wet the mud can be challenging. We will then take the sloping track climbing about 230ft up to the top of the ridge. If you normally walk with a walking pole it would be worthy of consideration for this walk especially if it has been wet. Reaching the top of the climb we will walk east across fields to join a short section of the West Buckland road going south, before following an unmade road to meet & cross the main road into Thurlestone. Descending Court Park Road (a private road) to meet up with Court Park close to our start point.
