SYC Ramble

1st April 2022, 09:45 - 13:00

This is a lovely walk across farmland to the Dart estuary and one of the most spectacular views in the South Hams.  We then follow the Dart seawards to the castle and then back along the coast.  The walk is (mostly) the Diamond Jubilee Way which was established in 2012 to commemorate HM the Queens accession to the throne 60 years previously.  For the last part of the ramble we will divert onto the South West Costal path to take in the sea views.  A coffee stop is planned at the halfway point so please bring supplies if this appeals.  We will pass public toilets just by Dartmouth castle.  The walk is 4.7miles and rated moderate.  A short stretch (30 metres) involves walking along the A379, but quite manageable.  Suitable for dogs although for some parts they will need to be on leads, as with most SYC rambles.

There is a pub lunch option and the Green Dragon at Stoke Fleming is looking forward to our visit (and dogs are welcome!).  Best parking is about 75 metres past the pub, further up the hill on the left hand side.

Please meet at the Little Dartmouth National Trust car park 9.45am ready to walk at 10.00am.  The car park is free to NT members but £3 otherwise.  There is no ticket machine so pay online on arrival (www.paybyphone.co.uk) or download the PayByPhone app beforehand.  Signage at the site explains all.  (There is an automated phone line option for those with non-smart phones but I found it quite difficult to use).  Alternatively join the National Trust!

All welcome back at the club in the evening for the Moules and Frites Night
