Junior Race Day Wednesday 26th August kindly sponsored by Coast & Country

After recent storms blowing through Salcombe the wind was strong for a great day on the water.
The young sailors all equipped themselves really well for three challenging races in a freshening breeze.
Lessons were learnt with gear failure and capsizes but the contest was great to see after so many months of lockdown.
It was particularly great to see Charlie Evans and his father Paul come to SYC for a while to watch the racing. Charlie, one of our talented old Cadets, is bravely under treatment at the moment and we gave an Endeavour Award in his honour to a sailor who showed great determination and spirit throughout the day. Charlie was proudly wearing his Ellen McArthur Cancer charity shirt and hat. They are providing amazing support and inspirational adventure for Charlie in the years ahead.
Three Races were won by the on form sailing of Izzy Wood in her Topper. Ben Meek had two seconds and sailed so well to regain places following loosing his main sheet on the startline! Youngest entrant Edward Alexander had an amazing birthday sail and scored a fantastic second in the final race.
Many thanks to Race Officer Simon Dobson, Chris Cleaves and the Safety Boat team. Thanks to Coast and Country for continuing their support of SYC Cadets.
