SYC Ramblers Walk - Ringmore Loop

Published 10:41 on 1 Mar 2024

SYC Ramblers Walk, 25th February 2024 - Ringmore Loop.

The weather was lovely on the Saturday and the Monday, but on Sunday 25th, the forecast was for consistent heavy rain and strong winds. This did not, however, put off 17 hardy and intrepid SYC Ramblers from meeting at the Ringmore National Trust Car Park on the Sunday morning.

After the normal discussion on the British weather, everyone got togged up in wet weather gear and set off. The walk took us across fields and through a muddy and challenging wood, (tree across path) and on to the Kingston pocket park, where spring flowers were just emerging. The rain had eased off and it was reasonably sheltered, so a coffee break was taken. Following coffee, we proceeded down an even more muddy, wet and slippery bridleway alongside a stream towards the sea. A comment was made that this was a lovely walk in the summer! This path did take us past an interesting willow coppicing area where the willows were being grown to provide rods for weaving into baskets. The path joined the SW coast path at Westcombe beach where we headed up a steep hill, 2 steps up, one slide down, and over the ridge down to Ayrmer Cove and a chilly walk into wind and rain back to the car park. We then headed wet and muddy to the 13th century Journeys End pub, where we left all our wet gear at the door and settled in for a well-deserved pint and roast dinner. The pub staff looked after us very well and gave a warm welcome to our bedraggled party. Well done to all the ramblers for tackling a challenging walk.
