The exceptional dedication of a key figure from Salcombe Yacht Club has earned national recognition in this years highly esteemed Sunday Times Sportswoman of the Year Awards.
For 37 years, these awards have celebrated the full spectrum of womens contributions to sport—from grassroots initiatives to elite international competition. This year, Jayne Morris, the sailing coordinator at SYC, has been nominated for the Grassroots Sportswoman of the Year Award, a category honoring those who make a difference through community engagement in sports.
Jaynes passion for sailing shines through in every session she leads, from introductory lessons to advanced classes. Her infectious enthusiasm has inspired people of all ages to take to the water, fostering a love of sailing across her community.
Upon hearing of her nomination, Jayne said, "Im incredibly grateful and amazed to be nominated. Sailing has always been a passion, and its been so rewarding to help others connect with and progress in the sport."

About Jayne
Jaynes journey in sailing began at 10 years old through a Girl Guides course and progressed to national competitions and university-level sailing, where she made history as the first female Commodore of her university sailing club.
After raising her three sons, Jayne began teaching Scouts, driven by a belief that children from all backgrounds should have access to sailing and the personal growth it offers. Her commitment led her to join Salcombe Yacht Club, where she has served as part-time sailing coordinator for 14 years, advocating for accessible, socially-focused sailing initiatives.
Jaynes dedication to the Cadet program at SYC has helped many young sailors build confidence, while her push to expand the clubs sailing programs has created more opportunities for new and returning sailors alike.
Her Ladies that Launch initiative introduced women to sailing in an approachable, supportive environment. The success of this program inspired her to create Buoys Aloud for men.
Jayne is a coach who welcomes people of all skill levels, fostering an inclusive, accessible club for everyone.
