SYC Ramble - above the Charletons
This walk will take us above the Charletons, an area steeped in local history with glorious views across the estuary and then back along Frogmore creek.
Meet for coffee and/or a snack for lunch [limited choices pasties/sausage rolls] at Springfield Farmshop [on the A379 between East Charleton and Frogmore] at 1pm for a 1.30 start. There is plenty of parking, could you please park behind the shop.
From Springfield we will walk for a short distance along the road before turning right into a lane to join the old Dartmouth/Kingsbridge Turnpike Road, now a green lane, to Duncombe Cross. Here we will take the road down towards the head of Bowcombe Creek. Then up across the fields up to the church we will pass several viewpoints over New Bridge and the upper estuary before walking down Church Lane and crossing the A379 to Marsh Lane. From there we will walk up to the beacon and then head down to Frogmore Creek, following the path along to Cleavehouse Bay from where we will walk back up to Springfield.
The walk is approx. 5 miles and should take about 3 hours with the option of a shorter route of 2 hours.
We have revised the start time as the shop car park closes at 5pm.
