Salcombe Yacht Club - Our response to Government advice on the Coronavirus outbreak

Published 11:14 on 19 Mar 2020

In response to the fast-changing advice from Government, and in line with other Yacht and Sailing Clubs your committee has decided to close the club premises and suspend all events and activities at the club with immediate effect until at least 30th April.  Open sailing events are cancelled or postponed, including the forthcoming Merlin Rocket Silver Tiller meeting, but the policy with regard to individual sailing, including club racing in the estuary is under review, and will be communicated separately.

Staff are being asked to work their minimum contracted hours until the end of March in order to effect an orderly closure.  Thereafter, and in the expectation of prolonged closure a skeleton staff presence will be maintained to safeguard the finances and fabric of the club, and the office can be contacted Monday to Thursday by email or telephone, but please do not visit the club in person.

These are truly unprecedented circumstances, and the impact that this outbreak will have on society, businesses, individuals and our local community will be huge.  We recognise that members will be affected in many and serious ways, and SYC is but a small cog in many members wheel of life. However, we hope that you will feel able to support us in whatever ways you can while we work now to ensure that the Club is in the best possible health to continue once these suspensions can be lifted and normality resumed.

We will continue to update members as the situation develops.

Best wishes

Andy Savell
